
Paan Charhea Jatra which means inviting guests in Newari language, is one of the most popular cultural activity in Nepal and hold a great value among Newar Community. In newar community, Paan Charhea Jatra is as valuable as Dashain and celebrated hugely. During the festival there is the Khat Jatra of the eight sister goddesses – the protectresses of this city in the night. The Newars of Kathmandu city observe this day as a family get together or ‘Paan Charhea’. The chariot of Goddesses Kankeshwori and Bhadrakali is brought to Ason, and the family get together of eight sister goddesses also takes place. Here the Bhadrakali from tebaha is represented by yellow hats, the wotu bhadrakali is represented by blue hats and the kankeshowri is represented by red hats.
